Well, it’s been an interesting week! I’m happy to announce the upcoming publication of my first novel, Strange Corners. It’s been a hell of a journey, and an enormous amount of fun. I have no idea of whether or not it will be any kind of commercial success, but to be honest that doesn’t bother me. I really, really wanted to have it out there. Bringing a project like this to its conclusion is deeply satisfying.
I posted my thoughts from last week into a FB group called The Heathen Underground, and was blown away by the positive and thoughtful responses. (I highly recommend you check out the group, for lots of reasons, as well as its offshoot, The Heathen Underground Community.
There were many interesting comments, many in the spirit of “keep going, it gets better,” which I certainly hope to be true. One observation which particularly struck me, however, was the idea that the reason that Catholicism wrapped me up was because it was simultaneously constricting me. In other words, Catholicism permeated every aspect of my life because it was simultaneously limiting my horizons.
Well, there’s a thought.
I might have to wrestle with this one for a while. I want a living faith, not spiritual co-dependency…we’ll see where this goes.
